Flying with your CPAP battery.

It comes down to one number on the label: watt-hours (Wh). Spare lithium batteries always go in your carry-on, never in checked bags.

Up to 100WhCarry-on

No airline approval needed.

101–160WhCarry-on, with approval

Your airline has to approve it. Up to two of these per passenger.

Over 160WhNot allowed

Can't go on a passenger plane, in any bag.

Source: FAA PackSafe, lithium batteries. Many airlines set stricter limits, so check yours.

Which EASYLONGER batteries can you fly with?

Before you fly

Five minutes the week before saves a long conversation at the gate.

  1. Check the label.

The watt-hours are printed on the battery. That's the number airlines and security look at.

  2. Ask your airline.

For the ES400 AIR, ask for approval and keep the reply. Ask about the ES270 too if you're flying an international airline or a codeshare flight, since limits vary.

  3. Download the test report.

Some airlines ask for a UN38.3 report. Save it on your phone, and print a copy if you like (below).

  4. Pack it in your carry-on.

Never in checked bags. Keep the ports covered or the battery in its bag, so nothing metal touches the terminals.

  5. Be ready at security.

Take it out if the TSA officer asks. The final decision at the checkpoint is theirs, with or without TSA PreCheck.

A test report isn't airline approval. It shows the battery passed transport testing; your airline still decides what flies. Need the report for an ES720 or ES960? Email support@easylonger.com with the model on the label.

Using your CPAP on the plane

Airlines set their own rules for running a CPAP in flight, and many ask you to tell them before you fly. Ask when you book.

If they say yes, plan enough battery for the whole flight plus a delay, with the humidifier off. The runtime calculator shows hours for your settings.
